WHO ARE WE?
Get to know Global Logistics through the vantage point of our current clients:
We think the best way to get to know who we are is to show you some of the real-life problems we have solved and customized services we are currently providing our clients. This way, we can demonstrate the adaptability, versatility and resourcefulness of Global Logistics through the testimonials and case studies of our actual clients.
CASE STUDY – Strategic Routes Drive Savings
Our customer has a major trading point in far western West Virginia that is not readily accessible by ocean container and thus very expensive to service with imported products. Traditionally, ocean container traffic to this area would be serviced via a west coast port of entry, railed to Columbus, Ohio, and then trucked from there to the customer’s Distribution facility where it would be Live Unloaded, taking up to 5 hours and incurring considerable driver wait charges in addition to the excessive freight charges. We investigated many options, including using east coast ports such as Charleston, Savannah or Norfolk with a backhaul, but these options either didn’t work operationally or didn’t provide savings versus the traditional option.
Using our unique logistics modeling techniques, we discovered we could save upwards of $900 per container by utilizing a more circuitous route. The ocean container shipments now come through the Port of New York, are railed from there to Columbus, and then trucked from there to the Customer. Further, by planning the shipments carefully, we were able to arrange a “drop and hook” program at delivery to eliminate the driver wait charges. The net benefit to the customer was over $1,000/shipment versus the traditional approach!
CASE STUDY – Container Consolidation
Our customer has considerable volume in total, but each individual category was not large enough to support importing ocean containers of that category. By utilizing our overseas consolidation facilities, we were able to combine all of these items from various categories into a single ocean container and ship it into the customer’s DC. The customer benefits from container economics but doesn’t have to buy excessive amounts of inventory on any individual item.
CASE STUDY – Warehouse Service Offers Flexibility
Our customer was being very successful selling their imported products, but therein created the issue. With the rapid yet unpredictable growth, the customer was regularly facing out of stock situations. To answer this issue, they ordered several months additional product but then growth slowed and their inventory was a financial burden taking up space in their facility with no end in sight. We utilized our low cost, non-traditional warehouse space in our St. Louis facility to establish a “Back-up Inventory” position for them that they can use to buffer unexpected periods of growth. Now, our customer can grow as the market allows with no concern over not being able to meet their customer’s needs!
CASE STUDY – Personalized Program
Our customer has many independent facilities that would like to participate in an import program, but they don’t have the space and/or usage required to do so effectively. We put together a program whereby each individual facility issues a purchase order for their portion of the ocean container. We then assemble these into a single order that is sent to our Hong Kong office. From there, our overseas office issues separate orders to the individual factories, providing each category of product to our consolidation facility. The product is then consolidated into an ocean container, shipped to a single receiving point, unloaded, separated and picked up by each of the individual customer facilities. Each facility is then invoiced directly for their portion of the shipment.
